Maybe that's just me, but roaming for WEEKS only to find the desired noble locked in a dungeon doesn't seem befitting for a king ruling half Calradia. You should be able to send companions with a message to nobles to either : rely on him for negotiations or inquire a meetup to settle the business.
2. Walrus327. • 4 yr. ago. You should be at least clan level 3 before you take a castle or town. It's nearly impossible with your party limit at only level 1. Unfortunately you gotta grind that grind. I'm halfway through level 3 and I just barely took a settlement. (after some savescumming too lol).
Edit: So turns out you can get a city even easier than a town by simply either asking for it, for free, or offering 1 coin and removing it or just giving them 1 coin. You need to own land to progress with the main quest. This guide on How To Own A Settlement In Mount & Blade II Bannerlord will tell you what you need to do in order to own a settlement so you can complete the objective for either an Imperial or Non-Imperial Settlement for the Dragon Banner quest.
Regarding imperial settlement, it mans a settlement with imperial culture. A town with imperial culture sells imperial recruits. A castle with imperial culture would be mixed in with those towns, and you can confirm that it's imperial by looking at the recruits for sale in the castle's attached villages. #2.
