May 16, 2006. #2. Hi Meggie. A UV lamp will not do anything at all for nail polish/enamel. It might seem like it does, but this is most likely because they are just sitting still long enough to allow the enamel to dry. (There are UV topcoats available that do require UV curing - but these are definitely not your normal garden variety enamel )
Here are the drying times per coat for gel nails using 2 different lamps (UV and LED) and for regular polish plus an air dry: One layer of gel nail polish dried with an LED lamp takes 30 seconds. One layer of gel nail polish dried with a UV lamp takes 2 minutes. One layer of regular nail polish dried with air takes 10 to 20 minutes.
